Energy efficiency plays a major role in the fight of cities against climate change. Nonetheless, energy efficiency policies touch upon the everyday life of European citizens and thus require active participation of the public in their development. In that sense, new participatory approaches are used to make sure programmes are in line with people's actual needs and overcome the difficulties faced in involving stakeholders and consumers through traditional participatory methods.
To showcase innovative examples of active citizen engagement in the design of smart and efficient energy policies at local level, Lille Metropole will organise an interactive workshop on the topic as part of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week. The event will take place on 21 June in Brussels and will be the opportunity for participants to exchange experiences by presenting diverse local and European projects using new methods to face difficulties of cities in the design local energy retrofitting services. During the conference, the participatory approaches used within the Sinfonia Smart City Initiative to involve tenants in energy efficient retrofitting projects will be presented by Alyona Zubaryeva, Project Manager at EURAC Research to inspire other cities in the design of their future energy policies.
